Job Summary

To ensure Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) provides equitable and inclusive services to students through leadership, coordination, and service in the Office of Basic Needs and Well Being in collaboration with the Mental Health Professional.  To provide a range of professional community resource navigation services including mental health to DCTC students.  The goal of this position is to assist students in overcoming specific barriers through equitable and inclusive programmatic efforts, success strategies, and referral to supportive services within the college community and the larger community in which the campus/student resides.  In addition, the position will provide leadership in addressing student basic needs concerns on campus, and development of educational programming for both students and staff on basic needs related topics.      

Examples of Duties:

  1. Serve as the resource navigator for students in need and at risk.
  2. Provide short term therapy/counseling services to meet specific student client needs.
  3. Provides basic needs support to students and education and resources to students, families, college personnel, and community agencies to aid in a culture of belonging and success.
  4. Perform related tasks of benefit to students at the college, in support of the relationship management process.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s in Social Work or Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW).
  • Knowledge of current principles, practices, and techniques of the social and human service field.
  • Knowledge of intervention techniques sufficient to meet the needs of the student population.
  • Knowledge of community social and support resources.
  • Knowledge of diverse, equity, and inclusion issues and ability to facilitate and manage students with such issues.
  • Ability to manage crisis situations.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations affecting social and accessibility services.
  • Demonstrated ability in resolving complex and challenging situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) or Doctorate of Social Work (DSW).
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.
  • Experience working with various community social organizations.
  • Knowledge of higher education policies and procedures including federal law and regulations relative to financial aid and accessibility services.
  • Experience with financial aid and literacy programming and processes.
