The Financial Aid Counselor position will coordinate and facilitate Dunwoody’s Financial Aid process from start to finish for Federal and State Financial Aid recipients, as well as, support the Veteran student population at the college and is responsible for the certification and tracking of VA education benefits.


  • Meet with students and parents to counsel and provide guidance on financial aid and the application process. This includes in-person meetings, phone calls, and email conversations.
  • Complete student verifications to ensure accurate funding and compliance for all students. 
  • Process and certify student/parent loan applications after approval from guarantee agency.
  • Acts as a liaison between students/parents and third party agencies to complete the financial aid process.
  • Calculate and communicate budgets for qualified students based on multiple factors, including: tuition, living expenses, miscellaneous expenses, etc. 
  • Generate offer letters to communicate financial aid assistance to qualified and approved students.
  • Creates and maintains financial aid brochures and materials to give to students and/or parents.
  • Ability to learn new computer programs and database management systems and demonstrate proficiency given adequate training.
  • Present financial aid and financial literacy material to small and large groups. This may include new student orientations, outreach events, financial literacy events, etc.
  • Exercise professional judgment under guidance of supervision when appropriate.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet frequently occurring deadlines.
  • Process student registration forms for Veterans administration certification following the guidelines outlined in the Veterans Administration Certifying Official handbook.
  • Assist and advise Veteran students/dependents in applying for educational benefits.
  • Certify and monitor VA students in VAONCE and State reporting system (VATS).
  • Regularly audits assessments of students’ tuition, class schedule and fees for accurate reporting for each student’s benefit certification to determine level of entitlement using the Post 9/11 GI Bill.
  • Act as the Liaison between the college and the VA to resolve issues.
  • Must have strong organizational skills, and consistently displays the highest levels of integrity.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and manage competing priorities, and work flexible schedule including select evenings and weekends to meet college business needs.
  • Completes other assignments and tasks as directed by the Director of Financial Aid.

·       Associates degree or equivalent preferred.

·       1-3 years’ experience working in a financial aid setting or student accounts.

·       Strong interpersonal and communications skills, including ability to actively listen; professional written communication skills; attention to detail, public speaking, and student-focused customer service.

·       Skilled at offering sound guidance to families/students in challenging situations. Able to explain and apply Dunwoody College of Technology policies to a vast array of situations and processes.

·       Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse work environment.

·       Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
